I went to a famous, long-established restaurant to try their cheese ramen again and see if the taste had changed.

I’ve never seen cheese ramen anywhere else in Japan except here. This restaurant has been around for quite a while. I went there a few times when I was a student, so it’s a renowned establishment that’s been in business for over 20 years. “Tsukumo Ramen”

“Tsukumo Ramen”

It’s located about a 20-minute walk from Ebisu Station, the station next to Shibuya. Tsukumo Ramen.

Taste Impressions

As for the taste, it’s a ramen made with a tonkotsu broth base, into which cheese—just as it looks—melts. This gives it a unique flavor with a hint of lactic acidity and a subtle sweetness in the broth. The aroma of the cheese blends with that of the tonkotsu broth to create an indescribable, intriguing taste. The cheese is “Tokachi Golden Gouda, shipped directly from Hokkaido,” which has a mild flavor without any strong aftertaste. In addition to unique varieties like tomato ramen, they also offer classic tonkotsu ramen.

Known for its bold “Ramen × Cheese” concept, this iconic restaurant stands out even in the Ebisu area. Since its founding in 1997, this ramen shop—which stays bustling late into the night—has been a pioneer in the one-of-a-kind “cheese ramen” genre for over 20 years.
With extended hours that make it perfect for a late-night bowl, you can enjoy that “magical bowl” even after a night out!
The interior features both counter and table seating, offering a casual and cozy atmosphere. While it has a laid-back vibe that invites you to drop in, once you’re faced with a bowl of ramen, you’ll be completely captivated by its unique character—that’s the charm of this place.
