Toro-Kin Hamamatsucho Main Store
Kinkanboy wanted to go out for some sushi and fish over the weekend, so I looked for an affordable place again. That place was Toro-Kin Hamamatsucho Main Store.
It offers a 1-hour all-you-can-drink deal with a 2-hour time limit. Since it was the weekend, I even made a reservation and arrived full of anticipation. But then!!!
Just your average izakaya. The sign reads, “All-you-can-drink for 490 yen!”
The interior isn’t particularly clean, and the lively atmosphere makes it hard to hear conversations. You have to speak loudly to be heard—it’s just your typical weekend scene at any restaurant.
The dishes that were brought out weren’t particularly bad. They were just ordinary, tasty meals.
If anything, I’m actually having quite a good time.
Seafood Boss
The wasabi was so spicy that it made me choke.
Here’s the kicker! I was too drunk to notice at the time, but when I got home and checked, I found out that—aside from the all-you-can-drink plan—there was a weekend surcharge of 500 yen per person. On top of that, there was a 480-yen appetizer charge per person. The appetizer wasn’t even anything special. In the end, that two-hour all-you-can-drink plan cost me about 2,000 yen per person. Where did those 490 yen go? Sure, the server did mention the weekend surcharge before I ordered, but isn’t that appetizer a bit pricey? I’m not really satisfied with this, and I don’t think I’ll be going back to this place. There’s a good saying in Japan.
Transparent Billing.
Clear Pricing: The pricing structure—including base rates, package rates, and fees for extras or extensions—is clearly outlined in advance.
No Deception or Inflated Charges: The receipts and itemized statements provided after service accurately list all charges.
Peace of Mind: Customers can use the service without worrying that they’re being overcharged.
I know I have my own shortcomings, but I just don’t like it.
Well! It was fun, so I guess that’s good enough.
Toro-Kin (とろ金) is a popular sushi and seafood izakaya concept in Tokyo dedicated to a singular, mouth-watering mission: serving direct-from-wholesaler Bluefin tuna (Hon-Maguro) at exceptionally fair, wallet-friendly prices. Located in the bustling transportation hub of Hamamatsucho, Toro-Kin bridges the gap between a traditional high-end sushi counter and a lively, social Japanese pub (izakaya).
If you are a tuna lover looking to experience melt-in-your-mouth Otoro (fatty tuna), Chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and rare tuna cuts alongside craft drinks and charcoal-grilled dishes, Toro-Kin is an essential Tokyo dining destination.
